Danish badminton ace Victor Axelsen beat Taiwan’s Zhou Tiancheng in straight sets at the Indonesia Masters on Sunday to claim the men’s singles title. The world number one beat Chou 21-10, 21-12 in a 41-minute match at the Istora Stadium in Jakarta. “I love playing at Istora, I always dreamed of winning at Istora. It’s a legendary venue, so it’s really special for me to be able to do that,” Axelsen, 28, told reporters.

Axelsen’s victory came after he beat home favourites Anthony Sinisuka Ginting in the semi-finals.

In women’s singles, China’s Chen Yufei defeated Thailand’s Inthanon to win her first title since gold at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

She defeated Rachanok, who won the 2020 Indonesia Masters women’s title, 21-16, 18-21, 21-15 in three sets in 74 minutes.

“I’m happy to get the gold medal today. I had some difficulties in the race, but I’m happy to get over them and win,” said Chen, the world number four.

After beating compatriot He Bingjiao 21-17, 21-14 in the semifinals, Chen Long advanced to the final.

Following the Indonesia Masters, the Indonesia Open is scheduled to start on June 14 and run until June 19.
