Hybrid pageants have been rolled out across the country, scouting out potential talent from across the country through virtual auditions. Extensive scouting and subsequent interviews culminated in a shortlist of 31 state winners, a note from organizers said.

“These shortlisted finalists arrive in Mumbai and undergo a rigorous training and grooming course under the tutelage of the best in the industry to compete for the coveted Miss World 2022 Miss India,” the note further reads.

Ms Dhupia, a former Miss India World, said the Miss India journey brought back “memories of priceless experiences I had in this beauty pageant”.

“It’s almost like reliving every moment of my journey with these young and charming girls, who are so full of enthusiasm and ability to meet the world with strength and grace.

“Of course, the digital process has been challenging in the wake of the pandemic, but I’m confident that whatever the layout, it will be just as exciting and rewarding,” the actor said in a statement.

The star-studded night saw performances by actors Kriti Sanon, Lauren Gottlieb and Ash Chandler. The show is hosted by Maniesh Paul.
