Benzema Real Madrid star striker Karim Benzema was named the best player in the UEFA Champions League for the 2021/22 season. The Real Madrid forward won the award after topping the scoring charts with 15 goals and made his team proud with a spectacular comeback. The French striker was a talisman for Real Madrid as he guided them to a record 14th European title and their fifth title since joining Lyon in 2009.

Not only did Benzema score in double digits in the single-season Champions League for the first time in his career, but his last 15 goals also put him at the top of the scoring list in all competitions.

It is worth noting that ten of these goals were scored in the knockout stages, starting with the decisive hat-trick against Paris Saint-Germain in the Round of 16.


He scored another treble at Chelsea before burying the winner of extra time, defeating defending champions in Spain before scoring three goals in the semi-final against Manchester City – including extra time as the penalty kicks came back from jaws.

Although Benzema did not add to his numbers in the final, he is now third with Robert Lewandowski in European Cup goal table history.
